- United States federal judge. Edwin Levon Nelson (February 10, 1940 – May 17, 2003) was a United States federal judge. Nelson was born in Brewton, Alabama. He received an LL.B. from Samford University, Cumberland School of Law in 1969. He was in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962. He was in private practice in Fort Payne, Alabama from 1969 to 1974. Nelson was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.
